A December to Remember*
Oh, December. What a month you turned out to be. I can honestly say that almost nothing turned out the way I planned or expected, but as things almost always do–it all worked out in the end. Let’s take a look back, shall we? December rolled in and we found ourselves scrambling to finish our bathroom and get the house decorated before the Hubster’s mom came for a visit. It was a bit of a mad rush trying to balance work + house projects + pregnancy + toddler, but we got it all done and enjoyed a wonderful visit with his mom. Then the Hubster got sick. In the eight…

Hockey Night*
I like Saturday nights. Our Saturday night routine may not seem terribly glamorous or exciting to anyone else, but it’s kind of my favourite. Since I went back to work, Saturday has become our “catch-up” day. It’s typically the day that we plow through the mountain of laundry that has accumulated through the week (that I’ve been too tired after work to do), run all our errands, get groceries, and try and clean the house up a little. By 5pm I’m usually completely spent and am ready to put my feet up for the night. Dinners on Saturday are usually pretty simple, then we toss Ruby in the tub and…

Bathroom Doors and Visits with Grandma*
Well, that was a bit of an unintended break. For the last several weeks, my “free time” has been poured into our upstairs bathroom. When we moved into our little home, we knew we eventually wanted to paint it, but it wasn’t a priority so we just lived with what was there. Then we found mold under the bathtub tiles… …and thus began the big bathroom overhaul. We’ve been slowly picking at it over the last year and a half as there were a ton of projects that needed to be done. The Hubster first spent a week living in the tub as he gutted it right down to the…

A Rant About Subsitute Teachers*
My lovelies, I am annoyed. Actually, I was more annoyed on Thursday and meant to write all about it then, but this weekend has been such a busy blur that I haven’t even turned on my computer until right now. This pregnancy has been a little harder on me than my first. Aside from a little heartburn, carrying Ruby was a breeze. This tiny peanut has been a different experience. I have awful back pain, and I am not sleeping well most nights. Last Wednesday I woke up after a particularly rough night and knew I needed to take a day. I had a headache and was really not feeling…

An Ontario Teacher: I’m Finally Here*
You know, I think I’m pretty lucky. On Friday, as I was rushing to return a laptop cart and race downstairs to my next classroom, I caught myself smiling. As I waved at one of my coworkers and said hello to one of my former students, I thought, “I love what I do.“ It isn’t always easy, and sure, there are days when I certainly wouldn’t be able to say that phrase with the same gusto that I felt on Friday. But most days, I can unequivocally say that I love being a teacher. I finally feel like I’m in my career. Two years ago I wrote this post about…
