    Sarah’s Key*

Have you entered Steph’s contest to win a $25 gift certificate yet? Tonight was book club night. Sometimes I’m still a little floored that my mad plan actually worked. That I have this amazing group of girls that love getting together once a week to eat bad food and rant about our lives and good books. There are seven or eight of us that meet regularly, with a few other ladies that sometimes make appearances. Most of the girls didn’t know each other when they started coming, but we’ve really started forming some wonderful friendships. This month we read Sarah’s Key by Tatiana de Rosenay, and it was amazing. I…

    Contest!

As I tip toe back into the world of blogging, I decided to do what any shameless blogger would do: I made a poll. (Riiiiiight over there in the sidebar. Yup. That one.) I’ve somehow managed to pump out a post longer than three lines for the last 12 days which (considering my recent record) is nothing short of amazing. For those of you who have been around for a while, is it too much? Am I annoying you yet? Vote! Vote! Vote! My post for today is actually more of an introduction. I want you to meet my lovely friend Stephanie at Sparrow and Owl. She is funny, creative…

    Thrift Shopping*

A few months ago I decided to start experimenting with thrift shopping. So many of the bloggers I love are into it, and often post the cool, vintage things they find… so I thought, why not? On my very first time out I found something totally fab–a pair of like new Nine West black pumps. I know, it’s totally shocking that I bought shoes, right? I fell in love with them instantly and after cleaning them up a bit, I wear them all the time. I’ve gone out “thrifting” several times since and have found some amazing deals. I’m totally hooked! It’s sort of like a treasure hunt; it takes…

    Crop Dusting*

When the Hubster and I started dating, I learned that he was lactose intolerant. I’ll be honest–I didn’t have a clue what that meant. He explained that he couldn’t have dairy products as he can’t digest them properly. This was a completely foreign concept for me as no one in my family has any food allergies. Back then, he could still get away with eating a little bit of dairy if he took a Lactaid pill before he ate. However, as he’s gotten older his sensitivity to dairy has greatly increased–to the point where we have cut it out of our diet almost completely. We drink almond milk, cook with rice…

    No Speak Americano?

I’ve had a surprisingly great teaching week this week. I teach (on average) 3 days a week. Sometimes it’s more, sometimes it’s less. On weeks around holidays, I always expect to work a little less as it’s a bit taboo for teachers to take days off just before or after an extended holiday. So when I was called and offered a 3 day gig at a nearby high school, I jumped at it. I’ve been teaching Grade 12 university stream English since Wednesday, and it’s been such a cool experience. This is only my second multiple day teaching assignment, and I love love love getting them. It’s kinda fun getting…
