Chapter Seven* The First Date
This is the story of how my husband and I met, got engaged, and were married within 8 months…
…and lived happily ever after*
The morning after the concussion, Bo Bandy decided that he felt fine enough to drive, so we all headed back to the city. I looked hotter than EVER– as the stay over was impromptu, I had no change of clothes, no contact case, etc etc… based on my looks for the evening / morning, it really is amazing that he ever asked me out. haha!!
Once the Hubster left to go home and I was back in my little residence room I did what most girls do… I started to reflect on the previous evening. I was entirely unsure of how things had gone… the ski trip was an utter disaster, but talking and laughing all night long had been absolutely fabulous. Before leaving he had promised to call later in the week, and despite his perfect track record for calling when he said that he would, I was still unsure of where things were going. So, I waited.
One day passed.
Two days passed.
…almost. On Wednesday night he called! AND, he asked me out. Despite abandoning him on a ski hill by himself for hours on end, he decided to give me one more try!!! He asked me if I would have dinner with him that Friday evening before the dance I had planned on going to. (Obviously I said yes without hesitation)
When Friday night arrived I was determined to look FABULOUS to make up for my bush-woman-Green-Giant ski trip appearance. I put on my favourite faded jeans with a white t-shirt and a wicked mauvey-pink knitted shawl. I also wore my pink stiletto books (which I later learned he didn’t enjoy) and wore my hair curly (which I later learned that he LOVES). He arrived looking better than I did… he was wearing this amazing blue and white collared shirt, nice jeans and great shoes with a leather jacket. MMmm mmm mm. We walked out to his car where he opened the door for me (as he did with all doors that evening) and he drove me to Swiss Chalet.
**I need to add in a little side note here: on one of our previous conversations we had talked somewhat about food and our likes and dislikes. I apparently told him that I preferred chicken to beef, and so he decided to take me somewhere where I would have a number of wonderful entrées to choose from. How cute is he?!?!
We we arrived at the restaurant and had a wonnnderful dinner together. There were no awkward pauses in the conversation and he was charming and funny. When it came time for dessert, the waitress brought us a menu, and he selected a giant ice cream sundae. The waitress then cleverly asked if we would like two spoons. The Hubs responded “Sure!” with a smile, and the waitress turned to confirm with me that this would be ok. (Like I would ever have a problem with that… sharing a hot sundae with an incredibly hot man?? Hubble hubble ding ding!!!) So we shared our sundae and it was SO cute. I felt like I was back in a 1950s ice cream parlor. :)
After dinner we walked back out to his car, and I can still remember the first song that came on the radio when he turned it on. It was “Somebody Told Me” by the Killers, and it was the first time I ever heard it. It ignited a temporary obsession with them shortly after. haha! We drove into the city and went to the dance. Once we got there I wasn’t sure what would happen… we hadn’t established anything about what we were or if we even wanted people to know that we had been on a date. We walked in together, then shortly after he found Too Kool and some of his friends, and I found my Telly. Obviously I poured my guts out to her about how I was on a date with the most amaaaazing guy and she spent the evening trying to get to know him a bit. We danced like crazies and had a marvelous time.
Eventually, the DJ played a slower song and as Telly ran off to find someone to dance with, I scanned the room for the Hubster. As an attractive, single, well-dressed man he was sure to attract several proposals to dance, so I wanted to be sneaky and get in there first. I spotted him across the room and made my way over to where he was and asked him if he would dance with me. He smiled, and I took his hand and we walked onto the floor. I can’t remember what song was playing, but I doubt that I was listening anyway. He held me close and I could smell his amazing cologne. We danced every dance together that night and he even held my hand. I felt like I was 12 again but it was exhilarating knowing that this amazing guy seemed to be interested in ME and didn’t care if other people saw it! It’s safe to say that I was dancing on cloud nine that night. :)
The night couldn’t have been any more perfect. The dinner was lovely and the dance was incredible! Afterwards he drove me home and walked me to my door. We stood and talked for a bit, but it was really cold so I debated whether or not I should invite him in for a minute. I bit the bullet and decided to ask, and he said…
…stay tuned for chapter 8. :) Same bat time, same bat channel! haha
