Complaining about something*

Allergy Alert*
Well, I didn’t go to work today. Last night I had every intention to. We had a friend come over for dinner, and after my crazy children went to bed I went into an intense work-prep mode. We are lucky to have someone come into our home to watch P while I’m at work, so I wanted to make sure things were sort of tidy for her. I did a quick blitz, then realized it was 9pm and I still needed to make lunches, prep backpacks, clean the kitchen and shower. I went upstairs to power through my list, but M took one look at my already stressed out face…

Last Day of Mat Leave*
Well, we’ve finally arrived: today is my last official day of mat leave. I’m not booked yet for tomorrow, but I’m back on call which means I have to keep my phone nearby all the time. Calls go out until 10pm, and start at 5:30am… which I feel is possibly insanely early, but it is what it is. I somewhat reluctantly packed my teacher bag last night, and I think I’m sort of ready to go. Except that I feel incredibly nervous. I know it’s totally irrational–I love my job and I know I’ll love it again the minute I step into a classroom. It just feels a bit daunting…

My Hip is a Jerk*
I was finally able to turn off my air conditioner today. That might sound like no big deal, but after the non-stop heatwave we’ve been through this summer, it is glorious to have my windows open. It was 42°C on Tuesday with the humidity. Forty-two. The kids’ school is not air conditioned, so I can’t even imagine what that was like with 30 tiny hot smelly bodies. Nope. It’s lovely and breezy today and I am loving it. I got some news last night that I am trying hard not to be terribly disappointed about. Three weeks ago, my hips went out again. When I say “out”, I mean they…

Park Pilfering*
I had an interesting experience at the park last week. I wasn’t going to even write about it as it is such a small thing, but something about it is still bothering me a little and I guess I’m curious to know what you think. After P’s hives finally subsided, I wanted to take my stir-crazy children to the park. I let S choose which one, and she chose the park closest to her school, where several of the local day care providers frequent with their charges. I’ve gotten to know a couple of them over the past year, and they are all very nice. The trip in itself was…

It comes in threes, right?
I can’t believe we’re already into July. The last month flew by–it was a whirlwind of end of school year activities, park playdates and back to back to back illnesses for Prince P. I was sick for most of May, and P was sick for most of June. I hope it isn’t someone else’s turn this month… (*cue ominous music*) P started his month of sickness with what I was sure was an ear infection. We had two long, long days (and nights) of crying whenever he tried to lay down to sleep, but when I took him in to get checked, we found out my wee man had strep,…
