    No Speak Americano?

I’ve had a surprisingly great teaching week this week. I teach (on average) 3 days a week. Sometimes it’s more, sometimes it’s less. On weeks around holidays, I always expect to work a little less as it’s a bit taboo for teachers to take days off just before or after an extended holiday. So when I was called and offered a 3 day gig at a nearby high school, I jumped at it. I’ve been teaching Grade 12 university stream English since Wednesday, and it’s been such a cool experience. This is only my second multiple day teaching assignment, and I love love love getting them. It’s kinda fun getting…

Adventures of the Hubster & Wifester (2010)

I know I’m a little late, but with the whirlwind that was December I barely got this printed and mailed out in time! So, without any further ado, here is our Christmas letter for 2010! Adventures of the Hubster & Wifester *2010 Edition* Merry Christmas! Did you miss us? Again it’s time, For me to sit down and write my favourite rhyme. And so, dear family and friends, Here are our adventures from 2010! You’ll remember last year how my heart was so sad, For there were no teaching jobs to be had. I volunteered at a school right through to May, A year from my graduation (minus one day).…

    The Doctor Search*

It’s almost that time again: the dreaded yearly check-up. For the last six years I’ve made my yearly pilgrimage to the doctor’s office for a physical and other lovely exams that shall remain nameless. I don’t know why, but I’ve never felt comfortable in a doctor’s office. I’ve never had a “bad” experience so I’m not entirely sure where it comes from. We had a wonderful family doctor in the Great White North, though once we moved south it was several years between visits. As I entered my twenties, I knew a general check-up was in order. Luckily, our university campus had very nice doctors that were always on staff,…

    New Netbook*

I love sales. I also love boxing day. I’m pretty sure that Boxing Day sales are pretty much my favourite thing ever. Especially when they result in new super cute little netbooks! (on which I’m writing to you now. obvs.) The Hubster and I shopped around and found a faboosh deal online through Best Buy… the only downside being that I had to wait a week to get my new toy tool for working. Working hard. I debated back and forth between a netbook and an Ipad, and (obviously) I decided on the netbook.  I really like the idea of an Ipad, but I just don’t know how practical it…

    Some Like It Hot*

I love spicy food. I’ve always enjoyed a dish that can clear out your sinuses, as does the Hubster. His tolerance for it is even higher than mine–he often asks for things to be a little spicier than even I like it. When we go out for Japanese food I’m pretty sure that there is so much wasabi in his soya sauce that it’s basically solid. haha Since we learned about his new food sensitivities in the summer, I’ve been experimenting with recipes from around the world. I find that so much of Canadian / American food is drenched in dairy or wheat, so I’ve been learning how to cook…
