• My New Nephew*

    Meeting for the first time*
    Proud Uncle*

My lovelies, meet my beautiful nephew: Hugh.

I’d say more, but he’s just… perfect. Sometimes words just aren’t good enough. :)

    He’s here. :)

After many long months of waiting, my perfect little nephew arrived this morning at 9:20am. He is a healthy 9 lbs 3 oz, and both the baby and Peeah are doing well. In fact, because she is super woman, she was back at home shortly after lunch.  I spoke with her this afternoon and she sounded so happy–tired, but happy. I haven’t met him yet, but I hear my little nephew has reddish blond hair and I’m positive I will absolutely melt when I hold him on Thursday.

    (…is it Thursday yet?)

I hate that I’m not with my family right now, but as we were already planning to drive up for the weekend on Thursday, we decided to wait. *sigh* I already know that the next two days will be verrrrrry long for me. As soon as I meet him I’ll get a photo for you so we can all share in his cuteness.

Also, you may or may not have noticed the presence of a new little poll on my sidebar! Yay!! Polls!! HOO HAH!

    (Are you excited? I’m excited.)

I’ve decided to take on another challenge for my Thrifty Thursday posts. I had a ton of fun hunting for accessories two weeks ago, and I’d like to do something like that again. So, I’ve come up with five ideas, and I’ll let you make the final decision!

    Six Months + Six Dresses*

Last year Kyla ran a series on her blog about her quest to add dresses to her summer wardrobe. So, she took on a challenge to buy one new or thrifted dress each month for six months and found some beautiful pieces. It was such a fun series to read over the summer and I was really sad when it ended. I thought it would be fun to try, so I thought I’d have this as an option!

    Colourful Accessories*

This would be an extension of the challenge I took on two weeks ago. I could hunt by item or colour, and show ways to jazz up a bland outfit with a little burst of colour and some fun accessories I find in thrift stores.

    Magical Shoes*

I’ve seen some pretty fabulous shoes while I’m out thrift shopping, and the turquoise ones I bought are just one example. I’ve thought about hunting for some bright, fun colourful shoes to add to my closet (that is currently a sea of brown, beige and black shoes).

    Five Looks + One Shoe*

Alana, the voice behind The Good Girl Gone Blog, recently ran a series on her blog that I LOVED: 1 Shoe, 7 Looks. She took one pair of boots, and created seven different looks and outfits for them. It was such a neat idea, and I think it could be fun to try!

    Blazer Blitz*

You all know how much I love a good blazer, so I thought about not only shopping for blazers, but wearing them to create both dressy and casual outfits.

So… it’s up to you! Which challenge should I take on first?? The poll is just on the sidebar (right side of the screen).

I finally updated my Blogs I Love* page. Since so many  of you lovely writers have made beautiful buttons for your blogs, I decided to use them! Once you’re on the page you can now just click on their button and it will take you right to their site. Isn’t that magical?

I met my new doctor today! Aside from the long wait, I am very happy with her. She is young, outgoing and professional and I liked her immediately. I am SO relieved to finally have a family doctor, and I already have my first physical scheduled for next month. And the best part? Everything happened in just over a month! I am seriously loving Health Care Connect right now.

Well, that just about does it for me, lovelies! I’m exhausted, and very ready for bed.

Two more sleeps until nephew time! :)

  • Dear Nephew*

    Princess Pea*

Well, as my nephew still hasn’t made his grand appearance, I thought I’d tell you a little story about Princess Pea while we wait.

I’m fairly certain of two things:

    1) I have the cutest niece in the world.
    2) She loves me.

Princess Pea began speaking a few months ago. At first it was just “Mum mum” and “Dad”, but she soon added “More”, “Help” and “kitty” to her expanding vocabulary. Naturally, as soon as we realized she was learning to speak, my entire family began trying to teach her how to say our names. Big Dad succeeded in teaching her how to say “Gumpo”, and I believe she’s even said Doodle’s name once.

But I am proud to announce that she learned my name first.

(You can bet I hold that one over allll my siblings heads. haha)

I wish wish wish I could record the audio so you could hear it–I basically melt every single time she says it. Unfortunately she only says my real name, and hasn’t yet learned to say “Shop Girl” so I can’t . Soon. I promise.

Peeah called me earlier tonight as Princess Pea was expressing just how much she loves me. My mom has a photo of the Hubster and I on one of her living room end tables, and Princess Pea saw it, pointed and started saying my name over and over. Then she picked up the phone and said, “Hi! (Shop Girl)! (Shop Girl)!”

I almost died from the cuteness.

And now, here I wait with a phone in each hand, waiting to get the call that Peeah is in labor. I am so excited to be able to do THIS again:

Really, is there anything better than being able to hold a beautiful, brand new baby? And let’s be honest here–Peeah and Fireman make some stinkin’ cute kidlets. The above photo was taken just as I met my niece for the first time… and after I stayed up almost alllllll night waiting for her.

I know. I’ve never looked better than I do right there. The “I-like-to-pretend-that-I-don’t-need-sleep” look looks good on me.

    SO.

    Dear Nephew,

Enough of this foolishness. It’s time to come out and play with your aunties.

    And maybe your uncles.

(But we both know you’ll love your aunties more.)

    Love,

  • …but I blogged yesterday, right?!

As I was folding Christmas letters and stuffing them into envelopes this afternoon I thought to myself, “Gee, it feels like I haven’t blogged in forever.” Then I thought, “But I’m suuuuch a good blogger. That can’t possibly be true.

    (It’s true. *sigh*)

Oh my lovelies, can you ever forgive me for my neglect? I’ve sort of fallen into this place where I think about something I want to write about, but by the time I get home from wherever I was where I thought of it I’m usually too tired and just want to feed my current Criminal Minds obsession or get caught up on things I’ve neglected around my house. (oh vacuum, we shall dance tomorrow!)

    Anyway. Enough of that.

Christmas is coming!!!!!! Tomorrow is December 14th, which means that it’s only TEN DAYS to Christmas Eve. How exciting is THAT?! Words cannot express how excited I am for singing carols, good company, great food AND it’s Princess Pea’s first Christmas. My little niece is now three months old and cuter than EVER.

(Peeah, Princess Pea & Fireman–taken last weekend by moi*)

Seriously, being an aunt is the greatest. thing. ever.

Want to know what else is great? Your Christmas music suggestions. I’ve been listening to them all and I am so impressed with your taste! I’m definitely still looking for this years’ song, so please keep sending me what you’re loving right now! I’m pretty sure that dearjennymac somehow cheated and found out that Silent Night is a song that has a lot of meaning for me and recommended Sinead O’Connors beautiful rendition of it which I was not familiar with until now. *sigh* You are all the best ever. More please! :)

Now, there is a contender for this year’s song, and it’s actually one that I heard on the radio and instantly loved. The Hubster doesn’t *quite* love it like I do, but he tolerates my serenading him whenever I hear it with patience–now that’s love. It’s cute, catchy and I can’t stop listening.

    Thoughts? Suggestions?

Lastly, I’m not sure if I told you or not, but I decided to join a choir and am performing in a Christmas Cantata next Sunday evening! I’m always leery about “unprofessional” choirs because I may or may not be a tiny bit judgmental and have very high standards when it comes to choirs and harmonies. I like to be in choirs that challenge me and make me want to become a stronger vocalist, not ones that struggle with even the most basic arrangements.

I decided to take a leap and try out this choir and am so glad I did. We are tackling several very challenging, wonderful arrangements to Christmas carols throughout the centuries–dating back as far as 1392. It’s a very cool concept for a concert, and the choir members are strong, confident and talented! I can’t wait to perform next week!

Anyway, as I know the majority of you won’t be able to be there as you kinda sorta live all over the planet, I thought I’d share one of the pieces we’re performing with you! This is my second favourite piece–I’ve yet to find a video of my favourite, but I won’t give up! It’s performed by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, and although we aren’t quite as, well, FABULOUS as they are, we do a dang fine job with our 80 voices. Enjoy!

  • Planning Peeah’s Party*

    Hi lovelies. :)

I haven’t forgotten about you, I promise. It’s just been a reeeally busy couple of days. I am currently writing to you from my parent’s kitchen table in B-Town as I’m up visiting for the weekend. I’ve been planning a baby shower for my sister (Peeah) for the past couple of months and today is the big day! We have nearly 30 people coming so it should be quite the party. I’ll make sure to take lots of pictures so you can pretend you’re partying with Peeah and Pipes (her baby is apparently quite the mover in her belly). The Hubster is back home guarding our house / eating all the peanut butter cookies I made last week. haha

I love planning parties… event planning was actually my back up plan if teacher’s college didn’t pan out. I don’t regret choosing TC for a second, but I still love organizing things like this. I’ve always secretly wanted to be a wedding planner (and a hair stylist) and may still give in to that urge one day. In the meantime, I do this.

Momma and I did an obscene amount of shopping yesterday as we got everything we needed for the shower. I am absolutely positive that there is going to be WAY too much food and we’ll have to roll everyone out after eating way too much, but really, I wouldn’t have it any other way. haha!

I’m trying a new venture in the kitchen today–chocolate dipped strawberries. Sounds simple enough, right? Well, leave it to me to not be satisfied with regular dipped strawberries, I want to try making tuxedo strawberries, and a couple of other designs I saw. I’m reeeeeally excited to try it and if it turns out I’ll post picture and instructions on how to do it yourself! Be excited.

Well dearies, I’m need to get back to work. There are prizes to organize, strawberries to make and houses to clean.

For all you Americans out there, have a freaking amazing Independence Day! WOO!
