Teacher Shop Girl is Tiiiiiiiired*
Oh. my. gosh. I have discovered a whoooooole new kind of tired. I mean, there’s tired, there’s really tired, there’s exhausted, and then there’s what I’m feeling right now. If you slapped my face on that girl up there, it preeeeetty much sums up how I feel right now. haha! Today was my first day in Grade 7. It’s a class of about 25 kids, and the ratio of girls to boys is pretty even. I went in prepared to have a day similar to my first day in my last placement, where I did a lot of sitting and observing. So, I wore “sitting shoes” (shoes that I hadn’t…

No More Teachers, No More Books*
Well, I’m about 20 minutes late–but technically it’ still today for me so I’m counting it as my daily post. :) I’m absolutely exhausted (I actually fell asleep on the futon and just woke up) but today was my very last day of teachers college classes. The past 5 months have been utterly exhausting and stressful… …but also absolutely wonderful. I’ve grown in ways I didn’t know possible and have learned so much. I can’t believe it flew by so quickly! On Monday I begin teaching Grade 7… eek! Wish me luck! Shop Girl* P.s. Happy birthday K & Miss Gentle Nudge!!!!

To Spank, or not to Spank?
It’s finally here. After three years of complaining to you about writing essays, I am finally writing (procrastinating) my last essay of my academic career. Any essay I write in the future will be for additional qualification courses, which I won’t count. It’s almost bittersweet… I’ve so enjoyed my essay writing experiences… …riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight. I’ve written about everything under the sun. Some essays were really boring (John G. Diefenbaker), some were really easy (analyzing Walt Whitman’s poetry), some were really challenging (Critical and Ecological Literacy) and some were very emotionally taxing to write (female genital mutilation or Nazi medical research). I’ve written short essays and long essays (38 pages! I didn’t…

My New AT*
This morning I went to meet my new Associate Teacher (AT) that I’ll be working with from February – April. I was less nervous this time having already been through the experience in October when I first met Billy–whose mix of professional and unprofessional attitudes and massive wealth of knowledge about teaching I found to be rather intimidating at first. We ended up getting along splendidly, which made me nervous that because I had such a fabulous AT the first time that I might not be so lucky this time. However, my practicum adviser loves me and has placed me with another wonderful teacher. I haven’t decided on a code…

I Like To Dance Which Means I Can’t Teach*
Ever since I started my Educational Law course in November I have found it to be almost completely useless. Today was the first time that I learned anything remotely interesting—I learned that if I had lived 100 years ago and had wanted to teach, I would not have been able to. …what the heck?! Surprisingly enough, it was not explicitly because I am a woman, as in those days teaching was a considered a feminine profession. There were very few male teachers, and even though there has been a shift in the last century, the profession is dominated by women. I wouldn’t have been able to teach because I am…
