Babies Don’t Keep*
P had a bit of a night last night. I heard him start stirring right around 3am. As I heard him start to whimper softly, I eased out of the warmth of my bed into the cold as I crept down the hallway to his room. He heard me come in, and without even opening his eyes he just opened his arms wide and waited for me to fill them. His crying eased as I folded myself over his little toddler bed, and after a while he was content to just have me sit near him while he fell back asleep. I think he must have had a bad dream…

The Elf is Coming*
I want so very badly to just go climb into bed, but I work again tomorrow and there are still lunches to make. *sigh* I had to get up extra early this morning so that I could help S get ready for photo retakes. I really wanted to keep her no-tooth sass-face smile, but she decided she didn’t like it and demanded a do-over. Of course I had to work today and its -100 out, so I had to try and do something with her hair that would survive her hat and not get super staticky. I would have much preferred to keep her hair down, but I predicted this…

Buttertart Battles & Snow Forts*
Quick post tonight. It has been a very full, very fabulous 24 hours and I am desperate to crawl into bed. I went out with some friends to see a community production of Oklahoma last night and it was really fun! The production was pretty well done, and I was completely blown away by a sixteen year old superstar who dominated the role of Ado Annie. I sang along to almost every song and thoroughly enjoyed the company. ..but it ran so late. I didn’t get in until after midnight, which feels so strange to the new mom-me. I used to stay out that late regularly when I was younger…

Walking in a Winter Wonderland*
I stayed up way too late last night. M was out, so I had the kids for dinner and bedtime. I never really feel like cooking when he’s not home, so the kids and I grabbed dinner on the way home from school and decided to put the Christmas tree up! We rearranged the furniture, blared Christmas music, got fake pine needles everywhere, prevented P from pulling it over multiple times and played in the box. I decided to leave it up with only lights for now, just until some of the excitement wears off. …which is probably wishful thinking on my part. P is the ultimate Christmas tree take…

This, That and the Other*
Today is day 3 of no sugar. I went off chocolate 10 days ago to kick start it, and decided to go off almost all of the rest on Monday. The first two days weren’t so bad. I still felt really motivated and determined to go through with it, so I powered through. By dinnertime last night I was bored. I desperately wanted a treat, and when you’re in that place a clementine orange is not the same as a brownie. But by that point I was almost done two days, and decided to just try and keep going. Today is a different story. Today I’m in the ragey place.…
