Walking in a Winter Wonderland*
I stayed up way too late last night. M was out, so I had the kids for dinner and bedtime. I never really feel like cooking when he’s not home, so the kids and I grabbed dinner on the way home from school and decided to put the Christmas tree up! We rearranged the furniture, blared Christmas music, got fake pine needles everywhere, prevented P from pulling it over multiple times and played in the box. I decided to leave it up with only lights for now, just until some of the excitement wears off. …which is probably wishful thinking on my part. P is the ultimate Christmas tree take…

This, That and the Other*
Today is day 3 of no sugar. I went off chocolate 10 days ago to kick start it, and decided to go off almost all of the rest on Monday. The first two days weren’t so bad. I still felt really motivated and determined to go through with it, so I powered through. By dinnertime last night I was bored. I desperately wanted a treat, and when you’re in that place a clementine orange is not the same as a brownie. But by that point I was almost done two days, and decided to just try and keep going. Today is a different story. Today I’m in the ragey place.…

From Me to You: A Giveaway!!
I’ve been thinking a lot about gratitude lately. Do you know that I’ve been writing in this blog for twelve years now? Twelve years. That’s a long time. Somehow, even with my long periods of absence and sleep deprived writings I have this wonderful community of people who are still reading. I can’t begin to tell you how much your comments, post “likes” and messages mean to me–on my hard days when I wonder whether it’s worth it to keep writing at all, you are there. And I am just so grateful for that. So, as a way to say THANK YOU for being awesome I want to do Seven…

Not the Giveaway Post*
I was going to announce my giveaway today. I really was. I was going to go get groceries right after taking the kids to school, then come home and write and get it organized. We walked to school as it’s finally, finally not raining, and on the way home P decided to take the long route. We explored every stick and rock on our way, and found our friends and neighbours in their driveway so we stopped for a chat. It was after 10 by the time we got home, and then I learned that two separate people close to me each lost a parent today. So, instead of getting…

Poppies, Hangry, Laundry & Giveaways*
It’s Remembrance Day today. Today we all donned our poppies, and listened to a beautiful service at our church. Shortly after 11 we stood and had a moment of silence to honor those we’ve lost and those still serving (and P only screamed out once!). I’ve loved scrolling through social media today as it’s full of tributes and stories of family members who have served, along with old grainy photographs of men and women in service uniforms. Sometimes when I see that then look at what some kids are wearing today I can’t help but shake my head a little. What can I say? I’m getting old. I felt kind…
