Tonight was a perfect summer evening.

As we were sitting down to dinner, there was a knock at the door. I opened it to see three boys our kids have become friends with, asking if S, H & P could come out and play. My kids began to shovel food into their mouths, and it wasn’t long before they were sprinting out the door to meet their friends. Now in a mostly kid-free house, I moved into the living room to feed W. A moment later I heard the front door open, and H called out, “Mom, can we have a water fight?” In a whirlwind they changed into their swim suits, grabbed their super soakers…

    Squished Potatoes*

Our kids have become really good friends with two boys across the street. Honestly, it’s everything I was hoping for when we moved. They get along really well, and they love playing together. It’s a constant back and forth of our kids heading across the street to see if “the boys” are available, or “the boys” knocking on our door and peeking in our front windows to see if our kids can come play. It reminds me SO much of my childhood up north and I am so here for it. My best friends and I were always back and forth all day long in the summers– and we’d appear…

    Letter to the Tooth Fairy*

The Tooth Fairy came last night!! When she went to take S’s tooth, she found a note (which may have made her heart melt a little). So, she wrote one back. Miss S was absolutely over the moon with excitement when she ran into our room this morning to show us… …at 6am. The Tooth Fairy lives on for another day.

When H was a baby, he was also quite large. His nickname is “Hank”, and he quickly became known as Hank the Tank. It stuck, and we often still use it or the spin off, Hankie Tankie. As the dinner table tonight, S was commenting on how the short forms of P’s and W’s names rhyme. Not wanting H to be left out, she decided to make a new nickname for W that could rhyme with him.…

    They are all mine.

“Are they all yours?” (“…on purpose?”) “You must be so busy!!” “You sure have your hands full!” “Good for you!” These are the comments I receive most often from random strangers we meet while we’re out and about. Many people assume that I must be running a home daycare, and are surprised to hear that I’m my only client. They are well meaning. I know that. I’m not offended. Apparently having a family of this size is uncommon these days and people are curious and interested. …but it does make me feel a little like a side show attraction sometimes, particularly with P’s antics. So, well meaning person on the…
