Anonyminity = Boring*
I’m sort of getting bored of all my secrecy. I’m preeeeeetty positive that everyone that reads my blog knows who I am, or at least isn’t some horribly scary stalker man (or woman, I’m all for gender equality). It also seems rather pretentious of me, as I am assuming that my writing is interesting enough to warrant someone’s devoted obsession. When I started my blog a few months ago the prospect of strangers reading my blog seemed excitingly dangerous, and the possibility of crazies coming after me seemed much higher, especially after watching Peyton’s situation on One Tree Hill (if you haven’t seen it, you MUST). But really, I don’t…

Spanish Spam?
I just got spammed in Spanish. Spanish! I’ve been spammed before, but it least it was in English and I didn’t have to find a free online translator to get an idea of what I was being spammed about. I don’t mind the occasional spam, so long as they follow my spamming guidelines: 1. Spam must be in English. Spam in languages I cannot understand is not spam, it’s gibberish. As my blog is written in English, I expect it to be spammed in English. French is permissible every so often, but please don’t make it a habit. 2. Spam must be short and to the point. You’ll probably lose…

Bratz Dolls Contribute to the Sexualization of Young Girls*
Every so often I receive an email forward that is really worth passing along. I’ve never been a huge fan of the Bratz dolls– they are scantily clad girls who are “popular” and attractive to young women. They encourage young girls (as young as age 4) to dress provocatively to increase their own sexuality. Please take a look at this link and take a moment to send the letter to Scholastic Books to help the moment to discontinue bringing the Bratz books into our schools. Bratz Newsletter Thank you. Out of the Loop*
Today, while at stake conference and having bumped into someone I know that was married almost a year to the day AFTER the hubs and I and finding out she was already 5 1/2 months pregnant, I realized that I’m one of the few women I know that were married around the same time I was that has not started a family. The Hubster and I are in no rush as we feel it’s very important to finish our post-secondary educations before having children, and we’re enjoying just spending some time just the two of us. I realize that some of these couples are in a different place than we…

Virginia Tech. Shooting*
I’m very tired as I’ve had a long day of teaching and studying for my 2 exams tomorrow, but I wanted to take a moment to write about what happened at Virginia Tech. University this morning. The details of the event are still slowly being put together, but essentially a man first gunned down students in a dorm, then a few hours later killed upwards of 30 people in an engineering wing of the university before his own death (it is still unknown whether it was at his own hand or through police gunfire). My heart just goes out to the families of those students who were injured or killed…
