    I’m Back, Jack*

Yesterday I took the wee-bean to an appointment, then we went and picked up a few groceries. I tried to stay busy, but I couldn’t help but watch the clock as the minutes ticked by. And then, as the clock struck three… my maternity leave ended and I was officially back at work. I am returning to work as an occasional teacher, which I’m actually kind of excited about. The mini-LTO I had before I took my leave was an amazing opportunity, but supply teaching allows me to ease back into work in ways that full-time teaching never could. For the time being, I am only working a couple of…

    Call Me, Maybe?

So, I’ve been thinking. Last night I called my mom. That in itself isn’t out of the ordinary–my mom and I chat on the phone a few times a week.  I call her to tell her about my day and catch up on the family news. After I got off the phone with her, I sat for a minute and realized: my mom is the only person I call “just to talk”. Sometimes we talk for 2 minutes, sometimes it’s closer to an hour. But aside from calling her, and the occasional check-in with the Hubster if we haven’t seen each other all day, I rarely use my phone to,…

    Vroom Vroom*

Well, I’ve finally done it. More accurately, I’m finally doing it. I am finally learning how to drive a manual car. I know, I know… this may seem like nothing newsworthy, but like my passport, it’s just been one of those things that has been sitting on my to-do list forever. You’ll remember that the Hubster and I bought a truck about a year and a half ago, just before we purchased our house. I have always loved trucks, and was thrilled that I had finally awoken his inner Northern Ontario-ness  when he announced that he wanted one to be our second vehicle. Initially I went with him to see…

    Baby Sleep Strategies*

Let me preface this post by saying: I am not a parenting genius. I am also not a “sleep expert” and what I’m about to write is based off our own experiences with our small wee-bean, who has never really been a great sleeper. Until now. For the past six months I’ve talked on and off about my struggles with Ruby’s sleeping patterns. She was extremely inconsistent in her sleep schedules, she didn’t nap, and it took forever to settle her at night. From day one she struggled with sleeping alone, which is ultimately how we decided to co-sleep for the first three months of her life. We then smoothly…

    Wasp Traps & Soap Scum*

Woo-wee! Time is moving so quickly that I swear I’m losing a day or two here and there. Apparently it’s September already, but I’m not sure I believe it. It’s still a bajillion degrees outside during the day, and being on maternity leave is like being in a little bubble where time ceases to exist. Anyway. Isn’t that a pretty title for a blog post? I’ve been in a do-it-yourself / crafty mood lately, and google has become my good friend. I’ve been trying to find solutions to problems around my house, and so far I’ve had some huge successes! Example #1: Wasps* I think we have a wasp nest…
