Summer of Reading*

I love summer.

During the lovely, lovely months of May, June, July and August I have no classes which in turn means that there are no dreaded assigned readings. Which are almost guaranteed to be boring unless they are with my most favourite professor ever who makes everything delightful.

Anyway, I digress. I take advantage of these four months to reestablish my love of reading that each school year inevitably destroys. Word to the wise–if you love reading, never ever become an English major. I decided that as I am reading like CRAZY this summer (especially as I now get paid to sit in the sun and read) I’d keep you updated on not only the books that I am reading and loving, but also the new blogs that I discover and fall in love with.

So far this summer I have completed:

Pillars of the Earth *Ken Follett
Confessions of a Shopaholic *Sophie Kinsella
Eat, Pray, Love *Elizabeth Gilbert
Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants *Ann Brashares
Pride and Prejudice *Jane Austen
Memoirs of a Geisha *Arthur Golden
Angels and Demons *Dan Brown

I am also currently reading:

The Peacegiver * James L. Ferrell
Humble Pie *Gordon Ramsay

Of all these books, I would hiiiiiiiiighly recommend Pillars of the Earth and Eat, Pray, Love. Pillars is probably the best novel I have ever ever read, and Eat, Pray, Love is just completely amazing. There are no words. Just read it.

Also, I have discovered some fabulous new blogs that you absolutely MUST see. I am a deep lover of good photography. Someday, when I am no longer a student and can afford a home, I intend to cover it with prints by Pleasure by Simplicity. I absolutely love her work… her photos are not only stunning, but really inspire a sense of peace and tranquility. I’m kind of in love with them. She’s fairly new to blogging, so I know she’d appreciate any feedback that you can give her. :)

I also really like the work done by Olivia Conway Photography and Jenna Nelson Photography. They are both more focused on portraits and family photos, but their photos are beautiful.

As for general reading, I’ve been loving Triciaj’s Nobody Said Life Was Fair… for a little while now and think that you should love it too.

Other than that, I would loooove new book / blog reading suggestions–I’m going through a couple of books a week now and my pile of reading is slowly getting smaller. Also many of my favourite bloggers slow down in the summer so I’m looking for some new ones to read!! Feel free to leave me a link to your site and I’ll definitely check it out. :)
