Complaining about something*

Catching Up on Sleep*

Remember that happy place I was in after family reunion on Saturday? When I was so excited to go back and see my family / eat more food again the next day?

Ugh.

When we got home after the reunion, Ruby was tired out. We played quietly for a little while, then she crashed at 8:30 and went out like a light. She didn’t make a peep.

Until 2am. When she woke up and decided she was ready to do family reunion all over again. Normally when she wakes up at night I just keep all the lights off and let her play quietly in her bed until she goes to sleep again. I go into her room if she gets upset, but often I’ll just listen to the monitor and let her settle herself.

Not so much this time. Ruby’s bed was in our room this weekend, and when she woke up and saw us there, she got excited and wanted to play.

And play, and play, and play. For three hours.

…until 5am when she settled again. We tried evvvvverything to get her back to sleep but it was no go. Every time we thought she was down, her head would pop up, see us, then she would smile and babble non-stop.

Oy evay.

Thank goodness she is flipping cute and I knew she has just been waaaay overstimulated that day.

Needless to say, when we “woke up” the next morning, I knew there was no way we would, a) be ready to leave on time; and b) be able to survive the 2+ hour drive home through crazy cottage country traffic.

As sad as I was to miss it, I knew it just wouldn’t be a good idea to go. We rested a bit then packed up the car to head home. We were all zombies for the rest of the day, and I feel like it’s taken me two full days to recoup the sleep we lost that night. Thankfully I’m feeling a little better today.

Oh, toddlers. What an adventure.
