    Miss, Is Civics Important?

I had an interesting experience today that helped remind me not to judge a book by its cover. Earlier this week I got a call for a history assignment for today. I was reeeeeeally hoping it was actually history, and I lucked out. I walked into the office to grab my plans, and was thrilled with the schedule: Grade 10 History, Prep, then two back to back periods of civics (my fav). My morning was positively dreamy. My first period class was wonderful. I got to teach a lesson about the Great Depression AND help the kids write summaries. It was like blending both English and History into one, and…

    I Don’t Even Know*

Writing every day has felt harder this month. Not in the sense that I’m running out of things to say, but just finding time to actually do it has felt more challenging. Being sick for like, ever, didn’t help, nor have P’s less than stellar sleeping habits this past little bit. My favourite time to write is in the early afternoon when the house is quiet. P is down for his nap, and I still have hours ahead of me to get all the other things I need to do done. Lately though, on the days I’ve been home I’ve needed those precious hours to sleep while he sleeps. While…

    Book Clubbing*

I had book club last night… and for the first time in a year, I didn’t read the book. (*bows head in shame*) Well, that’s not entirely true. I’ve read (and taught) it before, it’s just been a few years. I tried and tried to make myself read it again, but I just couldn’t get into it. This month we read The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver. I was more motivated to read it the first time through because, you know, I had to actually teach it to a bunch of grade 12 university students, but this time the spark just wasn’t there. It’s not that it’s a bad book,…

    She’s a Jack o’ Lantern!!

Well folks, today was picture day for H and Miss S. She has done SO well not wiggling her turn tooth, even though I know she’s wanted to so badly. Yesterday was a PA Day for the kids, and M surprised us all by taking the day off so we could have a family day. S held up her end of the turn tooth bargain, so yesterday we packed all the kids in the vanimal and went on a little family adventure. With three small kids, I don’t spend a lot of time in malls. We go there once a year to get photos with Santa, but other than the…

The Tale of the Missing Kobo*

We are 99% moved back into our bedroom. If you feel like I’ve been talking about / doing this forever, it’s because I have. It has inadvertently facilitated a reorganization of the storage spaces in all three upstairs bedrooms, so it’s been a bit of a process. When we cleared the room we had stuff everywhere as it wouldn’t all fit in one space, and as we completely redid the closet it’s not been as simple as putting it all back where it was before. The majority of our bedroom was stuffed into the upstairs play room, but we also had piles in the basement and in the kids’ room.…
