Happy Heart Day*

Today the Hubster and I celebrated our 7th Valentine’s Day together, and I think it was one of my favourite ones ever.

I think it’s safe to say that I had a rough day yesterday. After a long night (during which time little actual sleeping occurred) I awoke to supportive comments, emails and messages offering help and encouragement.

Thank you for that. On a day were love is meant to be celebrated and shared, I certainly felt yours. And it meant the world to me. I  have more to say on this, but that’s for another post.

Today was just… perfect.

I didn’t end up working, and spent a lazy day at home. I didn’t clean, I barely cooked… I just vegged. I so needed that.

When the Hubster got home, we exchanged our gifts. He went all out and brought me beautiful two-tone roses and also visited my favourite store. I now have lotions, body sprays, and bubble bath in my favourite scents. Is there anything in the world that smells better than Warm Vanilla Sugar?? I think not.

This year I’m trying hard to put more thought and heart into my gifts, so again I went homemade.

(I’m not sure if I told you, but this year I made him an advent calendar as he can’t have the chocolate ones you buy in stores. It was SO fun to make and I think  he loved it!)

I made him a “Love Jar”. The outside is a medium-sized, fishbowl styled glass jar with a lid that I decorated with his name and hearts. Inside are coloured cards with date ideas, words of love and ideas for things we can do together. He can pull one every day and use the card immediately, or “bank” it for later use. I actually saw the idea on this blog and loved it… and since it’s Valentine’s Day, I let him draw two cards today.

I know. I’m such a nice wife. :)

It may not be quite as creative as what my friend Fionna did for her husband, but I think he liked it.

(If you didn’t click to see what Fionna did, you want to do that. Right now. haha)

He normally has to go out and work on Monday evenings, but tonight he took the night off and we spent the whole thing together. I whipped up a quick schezwan stir fry and we enjoyed a quiet dinner at home, complete with cheesy red plastic champagne flutes that had hearts on the stems. Out brita water never tasted so good.

After dinner we curled up on the couch and watched an old John Candy comedy, then played a game of crib together. I’m teaching the Hubs how to play, and tonight he only lost by 3 points! I think he’s itching to beat me next time!

And now, he has fallen asleep and I wanted to write a few words so that I could remember this night. Our time together wasn’t interrupted by work, or emails, or phone calls… it was just us. And again I was reminded just how much I love this man and how lucky I am to be his wife.

Happy Valentine’s Day, Hubster.

I love you.

Thanks for the shout out Shop Girl. What you made was sweet. Nothing says love more than a handmade gift. Glad you enjoyed your Valentine’s day.
